Seattle Mariners....Gay Friendly?

Ok so I know I stated I was going to only blog about non sports stuff and this happened at a sporting event but I think this still applies as a non sports blog and also hey it's my blog I can talk about what I want.

I came across a story today about a lesbian couple asked to stop kissing at Seattle game last week and honestly it disturbs me. Please read the story by clicking the link and tell me what you think.

For myself I am saddened once again how naive we have become as a society. I have been to many sporting event with children in attendance and have seen woman going topless, couples all but having sex, people cursing, fighting, drinking you name it. Is it right no probably not. Would I take my kids to something like that, no probably not but if they are going to allow stuff like that then they need to allow two females kissing. Regardless if you or I or anyone thinks it is right morally or ethically it is the same. If we are going to tell two men or two woman they can not kiss in public we need to tell all couples (man and wife) they can not kiss in public either.

Rachel Ray...Terrorist supporter?

So I was surfing the web to find something to blog about this week and ran across a story about Rachel Ray and Dunkin Donuts. As some of you may or may not know Ray is the current spokesperson for the company and currently had an online ad of hers pulled because people complained a scarf she was wearing in the ad showed support for Muslim Terrorism. Here is the article:

Dunkin' Donuts Pulls Rachael Ray Ad After Complaints

(AP) Dunkin' Donuts has pulled an online advertisement featuring Rachael Ray after complaints that a fringed black-and-white scarf that the celebrity chef wore in the ad offers symbolic support for Muslim extremism and terrorism.

The coffee and baked goods chain said the ad that began appearing online May 7 was pulled over the past weekend because "the possibility of misperception detracted from its original intention to promote our iced coffee."

In the spot, Ray holds an iced coffee while standing in front of trees with pink blossoms.

Critics, including conservative commentator Michelle Malkin, complained that the scarf wrapped around her looked like a kaffiyeh, the traditional Arab headdress. Critics who fueled online complaints about the ad in blogs say such scarves have come to symbolize Muslim extremism and terrorism.

The kaffiyeh, Malkin wrote in a column posted online last Friday, "has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad. Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant (and not-so-ignorant) fashion designers, celebrities, and left-wing icons."

A statement issued Wednesday by Canton, Mass.-based Dunkin' Brands Inc., however, said the scarf had a paisley design, and was selected by a stylist for the advertising shoot.

"Absolutely no symbolism was intended," the company said.

Dunkin' spokeswoman Michelle King said the ad appeared on the chain's Web site, as well as other commercial sites.

Amahl Bishara, an anthropology lecturer at the University of Chicago who specializes in media matters relating to the Middle East, said complaints about the scarf's use in the ad demonstrate misunderstandings of Arab culture and the multiple meanings that symbols can take on depending on someone's perspective.

"I think that a right-wing blogger making an association between a kaffiyeh and terrorism is just an example of how so much of the complexity of Arab culture has been reduced to a very narrow vision of the Arab world on the part of some people in the U.S.," Bishara said in a phone interview. "Kaffiyehs are worn every day on the street by Palestinians and other people in the Middle East _ by people going to work, going to school, taking care of their families, and just trying to keep warm."

While some extremists and terrorists may wear kaffiyehs, "To reduce their meaning to support for terrorism has a tacit racist tone to it," Bishara said.

Malkin, in a posting following up on last week's column, said of Dunkin's decision to pull the ad, "It's refreshing to see an American company show sensitivity to the concerns of Americans opposed to Islamic jihad and its apologists."

Ray, host of the Food Network television program "30 Minute Meals" as well as a syndicated daytime talk show, began appearing in ads for Dunkin' Donuts in March 2007. When Dunkin' announced the partnership, it said Ray would be featured in TV, print, radio and online spots in a campaign running through 2010.

Um Hello its a stickin scarf. Who in there right mind would think someone wearing a black scarf would support Muslim Terrorist. Have we become a nation so uptight that we have to complaim about everything. Anyone that has or had an issue with that ad or scarf needs to get a life.

My rant about Wendy's

Someone tell me what is the deal with Wendy's lately? I swear if the founder of Wendy's Dave Thomas was alive I truly believe he would be embarrassed with the way his company has become. Let me tell you about my last two trips to Wendy's.

The first trip was about two weeks ago. It was about 11 at night and I had gotten hungry and didn't feel like making anything and knew the Wendy's near my house was open until 2am. I asked my wife if she wanted something and she did and off I went. Now I get to Wendy's pull up order my food and first thing they tell me is there not making any more baked potatoes which is what my wife wanted. I ask if they can make once since its not like there not about to close they will be open for three more hours and the person taking my order says no. Ok so I call my wife she says she will take a chicken sandwich same as me so I order. I pull up to the window to pay which I do they give me my drink and then inform me that the chicken me and my wife wanted would take seven minutes to cook(why they couldn't tell me before I ordered or paid is beyond me) and that I can take a spicy chicken sandwich or order a burger instead. I tell them I rather just get my money back and they inform me there no one that can do that I would have to come back the next day to get my money back. Of course Im not doing that so I say I will wait for the chicken which makes the lady mad so she tells me I have to pull up and wait. I say I would rather wait here since there no one else in line and she tells me if I do not pull forward she will have to ask me to leave to which I go ok give me back my money and I will. She then explains again she can't it will make her draw short and I would have to come back if I want a refund. I then ask to speak to the manager and she exaplains there is no manager on duty they had to leave. So I pull forward and sit while I watch employees and there friends coming in and out the store listening to loud music like i'm at Club Wendy's instead of making my food. Now you know that 7 minutes it was suppose to take to make my food. turned into 26 minutes. To say I was upset would be sugar coating it. So of course since there no manager to talk to that night I call back the next day to talk to the store manager and after telling him my complaint the store manager informs me that he has been updated on the happenings of the night before and basically it was a bad night since there was no manager on duty. I asked him how he was going to make this right for me and he explained since I received the food I paid for even though it took almost thirty minutes that there was nothing he could or was going to do.

Now you would think that would teach me to not go to Wendy's for awhile but no i'm dumb I like there food to much so I go to the Wendy's near my work for lunch and have another issue. I go through the driver thru and order a sandwich and ask for american cheese in place of swiss. Now the girl that took my order cut me off three times asking me what kind of drink I wanted before even letting me finish but ok I get the food ordered. Now the girl that took my order put subsitute swiss which would make the person making it know I did not want swiss but no I get my food pull away and realize there is swiss on my sandwich. I turn around go inside tell them the sandwich is wrong and show the sandwich to the lady at the counter. Now normally you would think they would just make a new sandwich but no i'm not that lucky. The lady that I am talking to gets the cashier which explains she put subsitute swiss so they then get the person that made the sandwich and that person said they are suppose to charge more for the subsitute so since they did not the person left the swiss. I then explain that is not my fault you all messed up I want my order the way I ordered it. At that point the original person that made my food snatched the sandwich out of my hand took the slice of swiss out threw it away slapped a piece of american cheese on the sandwich gave it back and said here happy. Now normally I try to be nice to people since it's not worth being rude it only makes things worse but I just lost it. I demanded to know the districts managers name and number I was calling right then and there who did this lady think she was snatching the food out of my hand like that and giving me attitude considering they messed up not me. Luckily at that point the manager on duty ran up made me a new sandwich and refunded my money but I was still floored. I could not believe they would treat me like that for just wanting my food to be correct.

Well there my last two trips to Wendy's. I am still amazed people would treat customers like that. Personally I feel if you hate your job that much to be mean all the time just quit. I did not make you get this job and it is not my fault you are miserable. Any comments or rants about Wendy's will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and until next time please come back again.
